Learning that grieving is normal, complicated and crucial. It takes a different amount of time for everyone, and there is no version of it you're doing wrong.
People around you will have opinions about how long grief should take. Six months in, the casseroles stop and everyone assumes you're through it. Often that's exactly when it gets heaviest, because the noise has died down and the absence is just there.
Grief counseling is a standing hour where you don't have to manage anyone else's feelings about your loss. You can be angry, flat, relieved, guilty, or all four in twenty minutes. None of it gets corrected.
If your faith is part of how you're making sense of the loss, it's welcome in the room. If your faith is what the loss shook, that's welcome too.
If the loss has changed how the whole household functions, look at family counseling. For ongoing one-to-one work, see individual counseling.
There's no wrong time to call, a week after, or three years after.
