One room, one hour, one person whose job is to listen carefully and help you make sense of it. Personal counseling in a healthy, compassionate and non-judgmental atmosphere.
Ages 9 and up · $120 per session
Most people who book individual counseling aren't in crisis. They're tired. Something has been sitting on them for months, a job that's grinding them down, a relationship that ended badly, a habit they can't shake, a feeling that they're going through the motions. They've told themselves it isn't bad enough to see someone about. It usually is.
Others come in with something specific and urgent: panic attacks, a loss that knocked them sideways, anger that scared them. Both belong here.
The first session is mostly you talking and Dr. Peña asking questions. No forms to perform, no diagnosis handed down in the first twenty minutes. By the end of it you'll have a rough sense of what's driving the thing you came in about.
After that, sessions alternate between digging and doing. Some weeks are about understanding where a pattern came from. Others are about trying something different between now and next time and reporting back. It's collaborative, and you're allowed to say when something isn't working.
If the trouble is mostly between you and your partner, marriage counseling is a better starting point. If it's a loss you're carrying, see grief counseling. For what a first visit involves, read what to expect, and for cost see fees.
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 10:00am to 9:00pm, at 18 Bancroft Rd in Poughkeepsie.
