Most people put off calling because they don't know what they're walking into. So here it is, in order, with nothing left vague.
You call the office, or send the form and we call you. Somebody asks what's going on, briefly, you don't have to tell the whole story to a stranger on the phone, and which kind of counseling sounds closest. Then we find a time. Appointments are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 10:00am and 9:00pm.
18 Bancroft Rd, Poughkeepsie. It's a few minutes off Route 9 with parking on site. Come five minutes early if it's your first time. See areas we serve for directions from your town.
Mostly you talking and Dr. Peña asking questions. Confidentiality gets explained plainly, including the narrow legal exceptions. You are not required to cover everything, cry, or reach a conclusion. If you want to spend the first session deciding whether you trust the room, that's a fine use of it.
At the end you'll get an honest read: what he thinks is going on, roughly how long the work might take, and whether this office is the right place for it. If it isn't, he'll say so and point you somewhere better.
Sessions run about an hour, usually weekly at first. Some are about understanding a pattern; others are about trying something different and reporting back. You're allowed to say when something isn't working, and you're allowed to stop.
Yourself, cash or Zelle for payment, and any court or probation paperwork if that's why you're coming.
Very common. That's what the questions are for. Silence isn't a problem in this room.
